HomeQuestions & Answers#AskTheExpert Hello, my son is 2 months and 10 days old. He drinks only breast milk. However, I have observed that when he drinks directly from the breast he vomits a lot and when he drinks expressed breastmilk from a bottle, he vomits relatively less. He has reflux problems from the beginning and hence we feed him in an upright position in both breast and bottle. Is this normal? Is it ok to feed him milk expressed into a bottle?

A. try burping him in upright position. Have experienced similar situation with my baby too. For me it was because baby was not burping properly, then I changed the position by keeping her on shoulder such that her ches lies on shoulder with her neck supported by one arm and patting her back by other arm. Sometimes she burps more than once and after its done she didn't threw up. you can try this too. nothing to worry.

A. that is very normal that small children after taking breastfeeding will regurgitate small amount of milk.
if the amount of milk is less than 10 ml no need to worry.
this curd like milk is normal and no treatment is required.
but if the quantity of milk is more than you have to rule out any gastric problem the child might be having.
you can decrease the the regurgitation by giving more burping time to the child.
s
also due to common pathway at the back between nasal cavity and the oral cavity the milk can come out through the nasal caavity also during the regurgitation and vomiting which is normal
meet your dr if vomiting is in large quantity and happening again and again

A. We burp every 10 minutes while feeding. My question is different. The question is, If we express milk and give and he vomits less, should we continue that or still give him directly from breast even if he vomits more when he drinks directly?

A. Hello dear parent, we'll you should burp your baby also, after every feed by holding him in upright position and massage his back for 20 mins and 4 burps are necessary. This really help,in releasing gas and prevents colic pain. Good luck and take care
