Q.

#AskTheExpert Hello, My daughter is 6.5 months and i have started semi solids for her once a day. Her poop earlier was very regular (once or twice a day) and yellowish in colour. She is on bf and fm. Since the semi solids her poop has changed to greenish and not very regular. Is this normal?

A. if you are giving only breastfeeding then there is a possibility that slightly loose to semi solid stool may be present intermittently but if you see that it is totally watery and also you are giving outside milk then it is advisable to get the child examined by the doctor to rule out any digestion problem or any infection and need of probiotics and Zinc has to be evaluated. in the meantime kindly continue breastfeeding to prevent dehydration you can continue breastfeeding aand if the loss of water through the watery stool is more you can give ORS also also if you observe that there is blood in the stool then kindly meet the doctor immediately because it can be dysentery also

A. that's ok and it's normal for smaller babies. Some babies don't poo even upto a week. If baby is active and healthy and if taking feeds well then no issues. If baby doesn't po for more than a week or ten days then you should see your doctor. Dont wait anytime after a week or near. green color poop is fine not an issue. Po color shouldn't be black or red anytime. The color doesn't matter much always check for consistency. If it's normal and green in color it shoudnt be a issue. If it's runny please check it
