Q.

#AskTheExpert hello dr My baby's birth weight was 2.9 kgs. Now he is 5 months old and weighs 6.1 kgs. Is the weight gain ok to his age. He seems very thin. Everyone says he is very thin and weak. He is exclusively breastfed baby. Please suggest me how to make him gain weight.

A. Your baby should be peeing anywhere between six to ten times a day which means the baby is taking feeds properly. If not then make sure the baby is latching and taking feeds well or if ur milk supply is sufficient. Also there should be a gradual weight gain. Keep a check on these factors.

A. Weight is ok. While breastfeeding, you can feed longer from one side, so that the baby will get the hind milk which comes later and has higher fat content than the foremilk which comes first. Skinny look may be due to genetic reasons. If father or mother was skinny during their childhood then she could also be getting the same physique.
