Q.

#asktheexpert hello doctor my daughter is 15 months old and recently have noticed that she’s eating a lot of mud and other dirt. Her skin looks very pale and her skin looks yellowish and not red. Is she anaemic? What should I do ?

A. It can be Pica. Pica can be recognised when a kid begins to have a consistent tendency to crave for non food items for over a month. It is due to deficiency of minerals like zinc or iron. Some do it for the purpose of seeking attention. Because your kid also looks pale, it is better to contact your doctor for direct examination for proper diagnosis and subsequent treatment.
