giving him a few sips of water with the help of spoon, couple of times a day is okay.

but offer water in few spoons of quantity.
don't force your child.
and give boiled cooled water.

it is important to keep the baby well hydrated..
give water after meals, at regular intervals, and on demand.
water helps in digesting foods..
so as you start with solids water is important..
