HomeQuestions & Answers4 month old boy drinks only 30 ml (Formula) milk per feed or breast feeds for 2-3 mins per feed. His weight gain and growth seems to be fine as per the doctor. Because he drinks little milk he also sleeps for an 1-2 hours and wakes up for feeding or playing. I am worried if he is and will be fine.

A. Hi, my baby is 3 weeks and breastfeeds only 5 to 10 mins. How much milk did you feed your baby during 1st and 2 nd month?

A. He does pee around 8-10 times in 24 hours and is gaining weight fine. The doctor said by 6 months he should be double of birth weight and he is already at that mark. I get worried as I see him drinking as less as 10 ml of milk sometimes in a single feed. From what I have seen a lot of babies around 4 months old drink around 100 ml of milk in a single feed and that scares the hell out of me. Are there other who have gone through this and how did they handle this.

A. He should be peeing anywhere between six to ten times a day which means he is taking feeds properly. Also watch if his weight is decreasing. If he pees well and there is no weight loss and looks active and healthy, he should be fine. Babies have small tummies. If he us feeding less then he should have more frequent feeds. Even if he is sleeping wake him up in between and feed him.
