Lovleena MishraMom of 2 children4 years agoA. Most toddlers say about 20 words by 18 months and 50 or more words by the time they turn two. By age 2, kids start to combine words together to make two word sentences such as "come help" or "baby crying". A 2 year old should be able to identify common objects as well. They should be able to follow common instructions like "pick up your toy" or "give that to me". Is your kid able to communicate using gestures such as pointing or waving.
Spend a lot of time communicating with your kid. Talk, sing and encourage imitation of sounds and gestures with your kid. Read books to your kid. Select soft or board books or picture books : point out at the pictures and keep repeating the names of the pictures. Later let your kid point to recognizable pictures and let him try to name them. Talk your way through the day. Point out objects around the house. Never use baby talk.
