POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy6 months agoA. If your 24-day-old baby's belly button is still wet and yellow liquid is coming out, it could be due to delayed umbilical cord healing, a minor infection, or umbilical granuloma. Here’s what you should do:
Possible Causes & What to Do:
Delayed Healing (Normal in Some Babies)
Keep the area clean and dry. Avoid covering it with a diaper; fold the diaper below the navel. Do not apply oil, powder, or bandage on the belly button.
Mild Infection (If There's Yellow Discharge)
Clean gently with a sterile cotton swab and warm water. Apply antiseptic solution (like Betadine, if prescribed by a doctor). If it smells bad, looks red/swollen, or the baby has a fever, see a doctor immediately.
Umbilical Granuloma (Small Pinkish Lump with Fluid)
A doctor may suggest silver nitrate application to dry it up. Usually, it heals on its own, but if it persists, consult a pediatrician. When to See a Doctor Urgently? The discharge has a foul smell or turns green/yellow with pus. The belly button looks swollen, red, or warm to touch. Your baby has a fever, irritability, or reduced feeding.
If the discharge is mild and clear, it may resolve in a few days. But if it's persistent or worsening, it’s best to consult a pediatrician. Let me know if you notice any other symptoms!
