A. night time coughing is very common in allergy cough and cold. it might be related to temperature variations which is occurring aroundx the child and the child is reacting to the changes with mucus formation and coughing. you can go for anti allergic medicines after consulting your doctor and try to see that the variations in temperature is not drastic during the night time and evening time

A. I'm sorry to hear that your 11-month-old daughter is coughing a lot while sleeping. Coughing in young children can be distressing, especially when it disrupts sleep. Here are some remedies and tips that may help alleviate her cough: ### 1. **Keep the Air Moist**: - **Use a Humidifier**: A cool-mist humidifier in her room can help keep the air moist and soothe her throat, reducing the frequency of coughing. - **Steam Inhalation**: Sitting with her in a steamy bathroom (not too hot) for a few minutes before bedtime may help loosen mucus and ease her cough. ### 2. **Elevate Her Head**: - **Elevate the Mattress**: Slightly elevate the head of her crib mattress by placing a rolled towel or blanket under it. This can help prevent mucus from pooling in the back of her throat, which can trigger coughing. ### 3. **Keep Her Hydrated**: - **Offer Fluids**: Keep her well-hydrated by offering breast milk, formula, or water (if your pediatrician has approved giving water). Staying hydrated helps thin mucus and keeps the throat moist. ### 4. **Honey (if Approved by a Doctor)**: - **Honey for Cough**: For babies older than 1 year, a small amount of honey (about half a teaspoon) can help soothe the throat and reduce coughing. However, since your baby is only 11 months old, honey is not recommended yet due to the risk of botulism. ### 5. **Saline Nasal Drops**: - **Clear Nasal Congestion**: If nasal congestion is contributing to her cough, you can use saline nasal drops to help clear her nose. After applying the drops, gently suction out any mucus with a bulb syringe. ### 6. **Warm Fluids**: - **Warm Fluids**: Warm water or mild warm fluids can sometimes help soothe the throat and reduce irritation that leads to coughing. ### 7. **Avoid Irritants**: - **Keep the Air Clean**: Ensure there are no irritants in the air, such as smoke, strong perfumes, or dust, as these can exacerbate coughing. ### 8. **Dress Comfortably**: - **Comfortable Clothing**: Ensure she is dressed comfortably for sleep. Overheating or being too cold can sometimes worsen coughs. ### 9. ### When to Seek Medical Help: - **High Fever**: If she has a fever above 100.4°F (38°C). - **Wheezing or Difficulty Breathing**: If she is wheezing, having difficulty breathing, or her lips or face turn blue. - **Persistent Cough**: If the cough persists for more than a few days or is getting worse. - **Stridor**: A harsh, barking cough (often associated with croup) or a high-pitched sound when breathing in. It's always a good idea to consult with her pediatrician if you're concerned about her cough, especially since she's so young. The doctor can provide tailored advice and determine if any medication or further treatment is necessary.
