My daughter is 17 months old and she is still babbling like mum-mum-mum or pap-pap-pap and some ta-ta-ta, recently she started vroom-vroom sounds of motor with the help of "wheels on the bus go round" song. She hasn't spoken a word, a proper word yet. My question is, is this normal for age group? I know every child is different some speak early some walk early, my daughter took her first step in her 9th month itself, but being a mother I'm quite worried about her speaking.

proper language / speech development will start between 18 months of age to 3 years of age. 
there is no need to worry before that just concentrate on the diet and regular interaction with the child.
also speech and language develops properly with more people available to interact with the child
avoid usage of tv mobile and laptop because they are the most common reasons for delayed speech and language development.

the most important thing is that before speech, understanding of the commands given by the parents should be present.
