POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 7 m old boy11 months agoA. For a baby with loose motions, it’s essential to approach treatment carefully, as dehydration is the main concern. Rather than immediately giving medicines, focus on these steps first:
1. Hydration
Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS): Give small sips frequently to prevent dehydration. You can use pre-packaged ORS solutions recommended for babies.
If breastfeeding, continue to breastfeed frequently, as it provides hydration and essential nutrients.
2. Probiotics
Pediatric Probiotics: Consult your pediatrician about giving probiotics like Lactobacillus, which can help restore gut health.
3. Diet (If Baby Is on Solids)
For babies older than 6 months, offer easily digestible foods like rice water, mashed bananas, or boiled potatoes.
Medicines
Do not give any over-the-counter medicine without consulting a pediatrician, as the cause of loose motions can vary (e.g., teething, infection, food intolerance). If your baby is very young or the loose motions are severe (frequent, watery stools), accompanied by fever, blood, or mucus in stools, or signs of dehydration (dry mouth, sunken eyes, reduced urine output), seek immediate medical attention.
