Q.

My baby is 5 month old.. she is on breastfeed and formula feed.... when should I start other food for her?? & how??? what else should I include in her diet???

A. Formula or breastmilk is the most important ingredient in a 5-month-old's diet. According to Infant Nutrition and Feeding, babies should get five or more nursing sessions per day or 26 to 39 ounces (oz) of iron-fortified formula. Some babies nurse more during growth spurts or when they do not feel well. The first meal is often baby cereal (whole grain oat, grain barley, or brown rice, which are good sources of iron for breastfed babies). You are also allowed to provide your baby with vegetables such as sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, peas, green beans, and fruit.
