Q.

is glycerin suppository bad for babies? My baby is 6 weeks and is not regular in his bowel movements. He did not poop for 3 days in a row and we used suppository and it's been again 3 days that he has not pooped. He shows discomfort if not pooped. I am sceptical about using suppository again as it seems to have regular now. His pead says its fine and once baby turns 3 months he will have control on his bowel movements and we will not need suppository any longer. Please suggest.

A. constipation in small babies is very common and is more with formula milk. Usually constipation of few days is considered as normal in babies below 6 months of age,you can give Himalaya bonnisan drops three times a day to your child for good digestion and give frequent feeding, usually medicines or suppositories are avoided in such a case .if baby is having gastric pain you can give collimax drops.if you need to give any enzyme preparation to your child you can consult doctor.give proper tummy time for about 15-20 mins and burping to avoid gastric trouble. In very sm[egall babies of 1 or 2 months of age it is very normal phone not to pass motion even for several days and on the contrary passing motion after every feed due to gastrocolic reflex is also considered as normal.
