Q.

I’m Zion’s father, I was diagnosed with viral fever of 103 temperature. I’m doing fine today, but my wife is taking care of the baby all alone, can I now go and take care of the baby since my fever is gone? Please as advise as I don’t want my baby to get the infection.

A. It's great that you're feeling better, but it's essential to ensure you're no longer contagious before taking care of your baby. Viral infections can still spread even after the fever has subsided, typically for about 24-48 hours after the fever breaks. To minimize the risk of infecting your baby, you can take these precautions: 1. Wait a bit longer: Ideally, wait until 24-48 hours have passed since your fever ended. 2. Good hygiene: Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly before touching your baby, especially after coughing, sneezing, or touching your face. 3. Wear a mask: If you are still concerned about possible transmission, consider wearing a mask when you are near your baby. 4. Disinfect surfaces: Clean commonly touched surfaces around the baby to reduce the risk of spreading germs. These steps can help protect your baby while you gradually resume caregiving duties.
