Hi Dr, my 5 weeks old baby leaks few drops of poop whenever he passes gas or cries which is causing him rashes and makes it difficult to give diaper free time. Is this normal and what can I do to help?

A. Yes, all. Having just spent nine months as fetuses developing in fluid, newborns have no experience with air until they take their first breath. Then, if they swallow some air when they cry or feed, eventually, some of the air comes up as a burp. Gas expelled from below (farts) comes from a different source.
