POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy6 months agoA. For a 5-month-old baby, it is generally recommended to wait until 6 months before introducing solids, as per WHO and pediatric guidelines. However, if your pediatrician has advised starting early, you can begin with light, easily digestible foods.
When to Start? Ideally, after 6 months, but if required, after completing 5 months (at 5.5 months). Signs that your baby is ready: Can sit with support. Shows interest in food. No tongue-thrust reflex (pushing food out). First Foods to Introduce:
Start with single-ingredient purees that are smooth and easy to digest:
Rice Cereal or Dal Water – Light and gentle on the tummy. Mashed Banana – Rich in energy and easy to digest. Apple Puree – Steamed and mashed, good for digestion. Carrot or Pumpkin Puree – Cooked and blended well. Ragi (Finger Millet) Porridge – Nutritious and calcium-rich. Feeding Tips: Introduce one new food at a time and wait 3-4 days to check for allergies. Start with 1-2 spoons and gradually increase the quantity. No salt, sugar, or cow’s milk before 1 year.
