Q.

hi doctor my baby 5 months old she has fever last 2 days giving paracetamol o.5 ml every 5 hours is it ok temperature also 99.5 to 100 degrees

A. Fever is a reaction of the body to different pyrogens released during any Infection. Usually temp more than 99 F is taken as fever . Mostly in children fever is because of viral infections like flu or RSV where the fever is there for 4-5 days but may persist even upto 2 weeks . Initially antipyretic like paracetamol is given in a dose of 15 mg / kg/ dose. Can be repeated after 4-6 hrs if needed . Lukefwarm sponge bath can be given as home remedy to decrease fever. Adequatec fluid intake is also beneficial. Urine output monitoring is necessary to avoid dehydration .

A. Yup Dosage of the medicine is fine but the difference is going to be six hours gap in between two dosages not five hours and 99° -100 °F is a very mild fever so if you want you can also go ahead with doing cold sponging that will help in detection of temperature
