A. To wean the night feeding, Feed the baby with solid food around 7or 8 pm. Prevent him from taking evening naps. Let his tummy be full and let him get tired. Then give him a good massage, change to his night clothes, play a soothing music, dim the lights and let him doze off to sleep slowly. Try to soothe him by rubbing his back, cuddling him. Or try letting him sleep with his dad, so that he will not be reminded about breast feeding by seeing you. If u think the baby will be hungry, wake him in between and feed other milk not Breastmilk. Actually u can feed other milk once late night and once early morning. Also try other sleep associations like a soothing lullaby or a soft toy. You may have to wean the 5.30 am feed as well as he will be always with the thought of feeding while sleeping. Instead make it a day feed as he is associating sleep with feed avoiding it totally during his sleep time will be better. It will be difficult for few days with lot of chaos. But u should be consistent and not confuse the baby by giving up seeing his meltdowns and feeding.
