A. A balanced diet for a 1 year and 5-month-old baby should include a variety of foods from all food groups to support growth and development. At this age, your child can eat most family foods with some modifications. Here’s a general guide for a day: 1. Breakfast: Porridge: Oatmeal, ragi (finger millet), or wheat porridge made with milk. Pancakes or Dosa: Made from whole wheat, ragi, or moong dal (green gram). Eggs: Scrambled or boiled eggs (if no allergies). Fruit: Small pieces of banana, apple, or pear (steamed for easier digestion). 2. Mid-Morning Snack: Fruit or Vegetables: Cut fruit like mango, papaya, or steamed vegetables like carrot sticks or cucumber slices. Yogurt or Cheese: Plain yogurt or a small piece of cheese. 3. Lunch: Rice or Roti: Soft rice or chapati (whole wheat flatbread) with ghee. Dal (Lentils): Masoor dal, moong dal, or mixed dal cooked soft. Vegetables: Steamed or cooked vegetables like carrots, spinach, potatoes, or pumpkin, lightly mashed. Protein: Small pieces of chicken, fish (deboned), or tofu. 4. Evening Snack: Smoothie or Milkshake: Made with milk and fruits like banana or mango. Finger Foods: Whole wheat biscuits, boiled sweet potatoes, or mashed avocado. 5. Dinner: Khichdi or Soft Rice: Rice cooked with dal, vegetables, and a little ghee. Vegetable Soup: A light vegetable soup with soft veggies like carrots, peas, and spinach. Idli or Dosa: Soft idli or dosa with minimal spices. 6. Bedtime Snack (if needed): Milk: A small cup of breast milk, formula, or cow’s milk (if tolerated). General Tips: Avoid Excess Salt, Sugar, and Spices: Keep the food bland, using minimal salt and sugar. Finger Foods: Encourage self-feeding with small, soft pieces of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Hydration: Ensure your baby is drinking enough water throughout the day. You can introduce a variety of textures and flavors to keep your baby interested in food, but continue to monitor for any food allergies.
