A. An HbA1c of 6.1% and a postprandial (after food) sugar level of 150 mg/dL during 15 weeks of pregnancy are slightly elevated and may indicate early signs of gestational diabetes or prediabetes. While these values are not dangerously high, they are above the ideal range for pregnancy. Normally, HbA1c during pregnancy should be below 5.7%, and post-meal sugar should ideally be below 140 mg/dL after 1 hour. It’s important to manage this early to prevent complications for both mother and baby, such as excessive fetal growth or high amniotic fluid. Your doctor may recommend a glucose tolerance test (GTT) for confirmation, along with diet changes, moderate exercise, and regular monitoring. With proper care, sugar levels can be well controlled and a healthy pregnancy can be maintained.
