#asktheexperts My baby is 2months old..he has this habit of sucking his pointer finger ..can you give me some suggestions on how to stop it?

Dr Sameer awadhiyaGuardian of 2 children2 years agoA. Thumb sucking in infants is a very normal phenomenon and its called mouthing reflex and nothing to be worried about it just maintain proper hygiene and with time this thing will go .
In the toddlers thumb sucking habit is also seen many a times which could be phycological cafuse and feeling of insecurity or some stress . Just try to make the child comfortable and divert in some activities adlso spend good time with the child .
In extreme case withdrawal can be tried with some solution available which are bitter like femite lotion . It needs to be applied locally .

Nihita mittalMom of a 7 yr 9 m old boy2 years agoA. good morning it is advisable to make your baby wear soft cotton mittens so that the child is not have a habit of putting hands in the mouth all the time and it is also advisable that you should try to feed the baby at regular intervals
