A. If your 1 year 6-month-old baby girl has pain, irritation during urination, and red rashes, it could be due to a urinary tract infection (UTI) or diaper rash. UTIs are common in young children and may cause pain while peeing, increased frequency, fussiness, or even mild fever. Diaper rash, especially if the rash is around the genital area, can also make urination painful due to skin irritation from prolonged contact with wetness or acidic urine. Make sure to change diapers frequently, clean the area gently with water (not wipes), and allow the skin to dry fully before putting on a new diaper. Apply a diaper rash cream with zinc oxide to soothe the skin. Also, keep her hydrated to help flush out any mild infection. If the pain continues, rash worsens, or she develops fever or strong-smelling urine, consult a pediatrician promptly. A urine test may be needed to rule out infection and begin the right treatment.
