POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 7 m old boy9 months agoA. It sounds like your 11-month-old is struggling with a persistent cold and cough, especially during sleep. Even though you're giving cough and cold drops, the symptoms may continue due to various factors such as dry air, mucus buildup, or even environmental triggers.
Here are a few steps you can try to alleviate your baby’s discomfort:
Use a Humidifier: A cool-mist humidifier in the room can help keep the air moist, which can soothe the throat and prevent mucus from thickening, easing congestion.
Saline Drops: If your baby has a blocked nose, saline drops can help loosen mucus and make it easier to clear out. You can use a bulb syringe or nasal aspirator to gently remove the mucus.
Elevate Baby’s Head: When your baby sleeps, elevate the head of their crib slightly (by placing a rolled towel under the mattress) to help with mucus drainage and ease breathing.
Hydration: Ensure your baby is well-hydrated. Offer breast milk, formula, or water, as fluids help thin the mucus and prevent dehydration.
Warm Baths: A warm bath before bedtime can help your baby relax and ease congestion. The steam from the bath may also help clear the nasal passages.
Comfortable Sleeping Environment: Make sure the room is not too hot or dry. Keep the room well-ventilated and ensure your baby is dressed comfortably for sleep.
If your baby’s symptoms persist for more than a week, or if they are having trouble breathing, have a fever, or show signs of dehydration, it's important to consult your pediatrician to rule out any underlying conditions or infections.
