Q.

#asktheexpert How can I stop breastfeeding my daughter? The frequency has gone down over time, around 5 times a day including night time feeds. Are there any tips to discourage her from demanding a feed except gradual weaning? Her solid and cow milk intake is proper

A. dear Mum, Breastfeeding should be continued till 2 years. Breastfeeding should be stopped gradually so as to make it less stressful for you and your baby. Ensure that the child eats enough; increase number of meals. Increase interval between breastfeeds. Drop one feed every day per week. Taper over 2-3 mo. Stop morning breastfeeds first, then afternoon feeds after 2 - 3 weeks. Avoid situations that remind the baby of the breast: other family members and father can help with feeding and putting child to sleep. The nighttime feeding is usually the last to go.
