Onion Fritters / Pyaz ke Pakode

This all-time favourite snack is eaten mostly as a tea-time snack. The trick to making crispy onion fritters is to add little water and a spoonful of coarse powdered rice. This no-fail recipe will come to your rescue when guests barge in without informing. A true crowd-pleaser, that’s what this dish is!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 green chillies, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 3/4 cup besan
  • 2 tbsp hot oil
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp coarsely powdered rice
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep-frying

Method

Step 1

Cut onions into thin slices, sprinkle a little salt and keep it aside for 5 – 10 min.

Step 2

Sprinkle a little besan, enough to just coat the slices. Next, add all the remaining ingredients except the oil for frying and mix well.

Step 3

Now with a tablespoon, drop dollops of this onion mixture into hot oil.

Step 4

Deep fry in till golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 5

Serve hot with dry garlic chutney.
