Complications in Pregnancy Due to Lack of Vitamin B-12

Pregnancy is bliss for any woman; however, it is also a big challenge to take care of yourself, especially when it comes to nutrients. We all are aware of iron, folic acid, calcium and multivitamins. But do we know abLet us have first a look at what is Vitamin B-12?

It is cobalamin which is an essential part of the vitamins family. B-12 helps to strengthen the nervous system and prevents the risk of brain damage. It is crucial for maintaining the energy level in the body. This vitamin is responsible for producing DNA and red blood cells in our body. Lack of this vitamin may lead to harmful effects, especially for pregnant ladies.

The most common symptoms of B-12 deficiency in pregnant ladies are:
1)Shortness of breath
2)Upset stomach and loss of appetite
3)Nerves issues and needles in feet and hands
4)Anemia
5)Forgetfulness
6)You look pale, yellowish and tired all the time
7)Blur vision
8)Strange mood swings which lead to anxiety and depression

DIET CHART FOR GOOD LEVELS OF B-12 INTAKE

You need to follow a strict diet plan. If you are not a vegetarian, then please do consume animal or meat products. However, if you are a vegan, consume yoghurt, eggs, cheese, milk, rice water, mushrooms and nutritional yeast. You can take B-12 supplements with the guidance of a good and experienced gynaecologist. In case of severe deficiency, your doctor may also prescribe injections.
