What’s not to want when you’re promised porcelain skin and lustrous hair in exchange for some of your money?

We’re not saying don’t splurge on that limited edition unicorn glitter eye palette.By all means, a little experimental shopping to satisfy that deep yearning for all things pretty is a need.

Chuck these 15 items out of your shopping list and we’ll guarantee your skin and hair will continue to do just fine. Plus you’ll have a lot more money saved for some alternate shopping!
15 Items You DO NOT Need To Waste Money On Anymore
1. Anti Cellulite Cream
There’s nothing that will get rid of cellulite apart from exercise, hydration and a healthy diet. Spending your extra bucks on a cream that claims to get rid of it is basically you just buying another bottle of moisturizer. You can ditch this one.
2. Split-End Serums
Hair once split cannot be joined back. Any serum that is doing promising that your split ends will magically merge and become one again is just weighing your hair down. Get a trim!
3. Stretch Mark Removal Creams
We say embrace your stretch marks because how cool are nearly holographic stripes? Besides, stretch mark creams do not work. Because, if they did no one in the world would have stretch marks ever. But look at most of us sporting our tiger stripes.
4. Makeup Remover
In the days before make-up remover existed, the fair maidens did perfectly fine with some water and face wash/ cleansing milk. Even a few drops of coconut, olive or almond oil works just as well to remove makeup.
5. Expensive/Higher SPF Sunscreens
We know prettier packaging, sweeter smelling things come at a cost but if you want a sunscreen that protects you from the sun and just that, pick one that doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket. While choosing the SPF value here’s what you need to know:
- SPF 15 blocks out 94% of UV Rays
- SPF 30 blocks out 97% of UV Rays
- SPF 50 blocks out 98% of UV Rays
Basically, we’re saying that whichever one you pick, you almost equally protected from UV rays.
6. More Than 5 Makeup Brushes
Don’t get sucked into the mesmerizing world of makeup tools before you first educate yourself on your needs. Dominic Skinner, a senior artist with MAC says that the basic number of makeup brushes you need are FIVE. A foundation brush, a powder/blush brush, an eyeshadow brush, a small brush to blend eyeshadow and concealer and a sharp, flat brush for any precision work. That’s all you need for a complete makeup look.
7. Eyelid Primers
This is specifically for you, the girl that follows every beauty blogger on the planet. Do not be lured into buying an eyelid primer. Although eyelid primer is not totally useless, you can do without it for sure. Word is that you can achieve that smooth, crease-less and long-lasting eyeshadow look with concealer as a base too!
8. Super-Expensive Anti-Ageing Products
No one is going to have 18-till-I-die-skin no matter what! A good cleanser and moisturizer are sufficient to keep skin in its best condition no matter what your age is. Think you need products with Bird’s saliva, snake venom, caviar, unicorn blood… Erm, we’ll pass!
9. Lip/Body Scrubs
We’re all suckers for product packaging, admit it! However, lip and body scrubs are essentially sugar or salt with carrier oils and sweet smelling scents. This means that you can make an equally effective and yummy smelling one at home with ingredients readily available in your kitchen.
10. Fancy Hair Products
True your hair will smell heavenly and looks great but then you have to deal with product buildup and the dependency on products to keep your hair tame. Regular oil massages, drinking plenty of water and eating protein-rich foods give your hair the TLC it needs from INSIDE. Because beauty on the outside and on the inside is GREATER. (and lighter on the pocket).
11. Whitening Toothpaste
Surface stains, goodbye! Whitening toothpaste only removes stains on the surface and doesn’t really tackle the real problem of full, yellowed teeth. It would be better to get a professional whitening treatment done instead.
12. Oil Blotting Papers
These are little sheets of thin paper that remove excess oil from your face. Tell me, is this possible with a tissue? Yeah, that’s what we thought, too. No thanks, I’ll keep my money.
13. Toner
You can leave out toner. Toner is best for people with enlarged pores and overactive oil glands. If you are one of these people, then you can go ahead with using toner. If not, here’s one thing less for you to splurge on.
14. Body Firming Lotions
You know how every woman on the planet has some jiggle?( The ones that work out too!).Yeah, so there are lotions aiming to get rid of this jiggle and are actually making tons of money because “it’s worth a shot”. Truth is, the only way you can reduce the jiggle is if your carb intake is lessened and your gym visits last consistently for a long time.
15. Facial Masks
Honestly, these are so fun to do at home that we’d recommend actually not chucking these out completely. However, these are just good for a once-in-a-while skin pick-me-up and your skin will do just fine without them. Masks help soothing skin after a clean-up or facial so maybe indulge in these as often as you would indulge in a professional facial.
There you have it, more money for important things like cake, shoes, travel and clothes (in that order!). All this and still sporting healthy skin, that’s a good deal don’t you think?
