- Sift in a bowl the all-purpose flour and baking powder. Then, add it to the egg and sugar mixture.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate it for 2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 190 degrees C or 375 degrees F.
- Roll the dough to a quarter-inch thickness.
- Cut the dough into heart shapes using the heart-shaped cookie cutter.
- Place the heart shapes on a greased cookie sheet.
- Use a drinking straw to make holes at the top centre of all heart shapes.
- Bake for 7 to 8 minutes, till lightly brown.
- Cool the cookies.
- Take a bowl and add 3 cups of confectioners’ sugar and 1/3rd cup of softened butter. Add vanilla extract with 2 tbsp milk and stir together. Beat to make a smooth frosting.
- Add in the red food colour to make the frosting pink.
- Spread the frosting on cooled cookies along with sprinkles, nonpareils, and coloured sugar.
- Let the frosting set.
- Tie the ends of 2 pieces of red liquorice and thread them through the cookie hole. Tie the other ends to make a necklace.
- Pack for school.
